Why Austin is USA’s Best City to Live

You may have already heard the news about Austin being named the best city to live in in America. To some, that is old news in their book. To others who haven’t had a chance to visit the capital of the Lone Star State, you may be wondering just why Austin made it to No. 1. The answer? Well, let’s break it down.

Aside from being the home of mindWireless, the Corporate Mobility Management experts, Austin is grand for a number of reasons. Executive editor at U.S. News, Kim Castro, stated that when considering a move, people are mainly concerned about these four things: finding a job in their field, earning enough to afford a home, sending their kids to good schools and feeling like a part of their community. Overall she summarizes her statement by saying that “the metro areas that do well are the ones with strong job markets and high quality of life.”

When it comes to the job market, it’s no surprise people are moving to Austin as a result of a career move. With high-tech companies such as Dell, IBM & Apple Inc. among many others, Austin is a prime location for those looking to make it in the tech industry; especially one that offers a competitive salary. mindWireless has enjoyed Austin as the home of its headquarters and has contributed to the growth of these career opportunities by hiring ‘Telecom Futurists’ in the city as developers and care professionals. With a city full of young and bright minds, mindWireless has been able to gather up a team to lead the way in mobile device management for businesses. If we take into consideration all job sectors, Austin has various other employment opportunities to offer in health care, the business sector, education, government, and not to mention, entertainment. Did I mention Austin is also known as the Live Music Capital of the World? (But you probably already knew that!)

Let’s move on to cost of living. Though living near downtown Austin won’t be the cheapest option, Austin real estate prices are still substantially cheaper than most major cities. The cost of housing for the Texas capital is at 15 percent below the national average. Certainly much more appealing than L.A. or New York’s cost of housing. And remember, this city’s got plenty of great jobs to offer so rent doesn’t have to be at top of your worries.

But the cherry on top that probably sets Austin apart from all other cities is its unique vibe that “Austinites” and visitors all love and cherish. The warm appeal of its surrounding hills is so inviting to nature lovers. Tacos and countless food trucks keep the foodies coming back. Austin City Limits and South By Southwest keep the music lovers around, and U.T. Austin’s campus is helping our youth to change the world while summer marathons and beautiful parks & trails help keep our community fit. While this is only a taste of Austin’s great features, it helps give us a better idea of why this beloved city is at the top of this year’s list of best places to live in this great country.
